Chicken Whisperer Magazine Winter 2024 | Page 7

From the Editor

As many of us bundle up for winter’ s frosty embrace( at least in parts of the country), we are delighted to bring you our latest issue, filled with warmth and wisdom to support your chickenkeeping adventures. Just like the change in seasons, our content adapts to offer you a wealth of tips and advice for winter poultry care. In this issue, you’ ll discover what you feed your flock during cold weather matters. Unlike warmer months, chickens need different types of feed in the winter to not only increase their energy to stay warm and ensure their caloric needs are being met, but also to promote gut health. Learn which one is best for your birds.

Whether you want to try your hand at raising game birds for reserves, or simply enjoy them from farm to table, there is an art to keeping pheasant, grouse and quail. To understand the ins and outs of what it means to care for these special fowl, we must understand their needs( which are different from our chickens) and how to harvest them when the time comes.
While many chicken breeders are looking to 2025 to start their broods, our APA expert insists that for those who are interested, 2024 isn’ t over and neither is the breeding season. She provides effective tips and strategies for winter hatching and what you need to do to get started.
Together, we’ ll continue to explore and share our love for the fowl we keep and support one another on our respective chicken-keeping journeys.
